Drilling and Coring Equipment

Metabo Rotary Hammer Drill

These SDS hammers are lightweight with plenty of "punch."  Designed to use the standard SDS (Slotted Drive System) carbide bit, these compact hammers have a great power-to-weight ratio and are typically much faster than the large spline drive hammers.  All Metabo SDS hammers can be switched to rotation only mode for extra convenience.

Feathers and Wedges

A time tested way to split stone, Feathers and Wedges, also known as Shims and Wedges.  Available from Miles Supply in a variety of sizes.

How To Use:

  • Drill holes along your split line at least as deep as your wedges are long and about 6" apart.  The feathers and wedges should fit snugly into the hole.  The split line may be straight or curved. For more difficult splits, drill your holes deeper and place them closer together.

  • Insert feathers and wedges into the holes, be sure the "wings" sace the direction you want the stone to split.

  • Strike the wedges in sequence firmly.  Wait a few minutes, then repeat until the stone is split.
