Craig’s Gold Leaf is a breakthrough gold paint, specially developed for memorial and other stonemasonry applications. It offers long-lasting levels of brilliance and color retention that until now, only gold leaf could fulfill, with several distinct advantages over gold leaf:
• No need to move stones to workshops – can be applied outside, in most weather conditions
• Easily and quickly reaches all parts, including the sides and deep into the base of the letters
• Robust, withstands knocks, multiple cleanings and accidental mishandling
• Easier and faster to apply – formulated for brushing or spraying
• Significantly lower cost
Why is this better than gold leaf? Severe weathering, fading, aging and tarnishing all adversely impact the luster and brilliance of commonly available metallic gold paints, but Craig’s Gold Leaf overcomes all of these drawbacks thanks to ground-breaking technology.
Capable of adhering to most common substrates, Craig’s Gold Leaf is exceptionally versatile and can also be used in many other interior and exterior applications with fantastic results.

Preparation for painting stone
Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from debris. [On existing inscriptions, ensure all remnants of previous coatings are removed. (This may require the use of paint remover and plastic bristled brush, being very careful not to damage the surface of the stone. Follow the instructions of the paint remover and then flush clean with plenty of water, to ensure none of it remains in the lettering.)
The stone must then be allowed to dry thoroughly, for up to 48 hours, so that it is dry all the way through.]
When the stone is fully clean and dry, Stir Craig’s Paint well before use.
We recommend two coats on the clean bare stone, no primer or undercoat required. We further recommend testing on a small discreet area before committing to a large job.
Goldfarben produces a range of fully compatible colored stone paints. They can be mixed together to produce many shades of color.
* Drying time is temperature, air flow and humidity dependent. A warm, sunny day with a gentle breeze and low humidity will give the fastest drying time.
A rough calculation as a guide, assuming normal air flow and relative humidity:
• 86 degrees F – 15 mins touch dry and 24 hours through dry.
• 68 degrees F – 30 mins touch dry and 24 hours through dry.
• 50 degrees F – 1.5 hours touch dry and 36 hours through dry.
• 41 degrees F – 3 hours touch dry and 48 hours through dry.
